The premise of this short film is simple: a group of friends get together for a night of fun playing a tabletop role-playing game! I wanted to experiment with mixing documentary and cinematic storytelling with a thematic tonal shift in the same film - this is the result.
My second love is gaming, so I incorporated Dungeons and Dragons the way my friends and I would play it in college - using Lego mini-figures, mixed-up dice, and hand drawn maps. I wanted to capture the fun of playing a game together while also trying to add in an emotional shift in the story.
This project had the creative restriction of only five camera movements throughout. Can you spot them all as you watch?
